The New York Ukulele Ensemble has been asked to march in the Soho Art Parade again this year. We need players of ALL LEVELS to make as big a presence as possible. This year it's being held on Saturday, September 6th.
When I say all levels, I'm not kidding. Last year I couldn't play the ukulele and walk at the same time, so for 99% of the time I played Air Uke. But it was an unforgettable event -- incredible fun -- and I'm really happy to be involved again this year (although I haven't practiced walking and playing yet).
Here's an article from the Times, in case you're not familiar with the parade (I wasn't!):

Here's a video with us marching in last year's parade. We're the ones with clothes on (and ukuleles!):

If this looks like fun to you please let me know -- and bring your friends! We need players, plus people to hold the banner, pass out NYUE stickers, etc. There's no money involved, but there is a pretty wild party afterwards that only parade people can get into -- and that means YOU!
Please come -- you won't regret it and you won't forget it!!! |

Don, a marching string bass is just the thing we need! Consider yourself enlisted.
BlueMoon20, if you are in the NYC area there are quite a few uke-centric activities always in the works. When you say 'attend,' I'm hoping you'll be marching with us and not just cheering us on from the sidelines.
I'll contact you both off-line with details very shortly. Thanks so much for being the first to respond!
Now...how about the rest of you???

| Actually I'm in NJ, but really close to NYC. Sure, I'll march if I'm there. Thank you for sending the details.

Details on the way!
A couple of years? I was only playing a couple of months when I marched last year. If you can play three chords and walk you're waaaay ahead of where I was.

| Debra, if I can make it, would a fluke be ok to bring, or should it be something more conventional looking, like a koa soprano?

Wherever there is more than one ukulele, there is bound to be at least one Flea or Fluke (and that one ukulele might be a Flea or Fluke, too). We'd love to have you march with us! I'll send another email with all the info.
