I am a huge Kala fan. They are made in China for an American company. For the price they are excellent quality, playability, intonation, and the sound is decent. You also get lots of style choices.

I own a concert with the blue stain on it. I was originally going to give it away but liked it so much I decided to keep it as my lay-around-the-living room uke, so I play it every day.

They are terrific little ukes for the money. One of the best at their price point. Their designs are also fun.

I've played a friends pineapple and it sounded great when he upgraded to worth strings. Also saw a cool watermelon design that musicguymic had at the Windy City Uke Fest! I almost took him up on a cash deal, but alas restrained myself--- Thanks for the fun Mike and it was fun meeting you!

Talk to Musicguymic, he knows the Kala creator personally and buys the product. Came from California originally according to Mike and wanted to mass produce so went to China. I have a baritone cutaway and use it in concerts because of the shadow pickup. Craftsmanship is very good and the tone is decent. You can't beat the price - the pickup in my baritone cost more than the uku. I have five baritones including a 1960 Martin and a koa one I made but I tend to play the Kala for most of my gigs and personal enjoyment.

Hard to beat Kala's bang for the buck; Upton knows his stuff.
(the Lanikai basic ukes are almost the same thing; same factory)
If you want a wider nut width or longer scale, I have a Lehua.
Also Kelii second label for same longer wider specs.

btw as I have said, the mahog lam Ka T, or B (tenor or bari) are "better" sounding than most production ukes imo.

I have 3 Kala Ukes in various price ranges - they are all excellent in fit, finish, intonation and sound. They stack up well against my more expensive ukuleles. Whenever I get a chance, I extol the virtues of these great instruments.

I'm a KALA dealer. They have are consistently good and great ukes for the money. Mike, who started this company, used to be the main guy for getting Lanikai on the map in Hawaii. They are a good company to deal with and the customer service is excellent. One of my favorite players is my 8 string Kala. I'm always glad to help anyone with a Kala purchase. Some of their ukes have not made it to my website yet, but, if it is available, we can get it! www.UkeLadyMusic.com

I have a couple Kalas, and love them both; definitely a big bang for your buck (plus they are total eye candy).
